Dedicated! Apollo!

***************************

Apollo came from the eastern culture region and is
just like his twin-sister Artemis in Greek Mythology
a descendent of Zeus and the Titan Leto.
He was conceived, because of a forbidden love-affair.
But this would be another long story.

Apollo was one of a group of 12 Greek main Gods,
which ruled after they overthrew the Titans.
All Olympians are related in some way.
They are named after their dwelling place Mount Olympus.

The Olympian Gods are:
Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Hera, Ares, Athena, Apollo,
Aphrodite, Hermes, Artemis and Hephaestus.

Apollo was the paradigm of a God and was seen as the top
of the masculine attractiveness with his young, breathtaking
good looks.

Other Olympic Gods do not even come close to his looks.
Many times he was depicted in the nude as a handsome
specimen of a man. Therefore the term: "Handsome as Apollo."

Apollo was also called the God of light, therefore his nickname
of Phoebus, the Radiant, the Glowing. He is often associated with
the art of music, poetry and medicine, but was also called
the Long-Range Archer and the Pythian, because of his victory
over the python-snake.

As far as is known, Apollo had 17 offspring by 16 lovers.
Beside that he had also three male lovers, even so
he was the God of law and order and the right of freedom.

His special characteristics are:
the crown on his golden- haired head with 12 radiant rays of light,
a silver bow in his right hand, a quiver for his arrows on his back
and in his left hand a golden lyre.

On the Temple of Apollo in Delphi is an inscriptions with
the words: "nothing is to much" and: "recognize yourself".
However these words from the handsome God Apollo
are being read, they will forever stay current.
