the so called: Homeric Religion, a blend of Achaean, Dorian, Minoan, Egyptian and Asian elements.
Within this Nobility-Religion, the Olympians were purely anthropomorphic figures.
The Greeks believed that the Gods had chosen Mount Olympus, the Thessalian Mountain,
as a place where the Gods could dwell.
On Mount Olympus the Gods formed a hierarchical society, according to their authority
and individual abilities.
Single Gods would be involved in the three most important territories -the Heavens-the Sea-
and the Earth.
The twelve Main-Gods, usually referred to only as the "Olympians" were Zeus, Hera,
Hephaestus, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite, Hestia, Hermes, Demeter
and Poseidon.

In Greek Mythology is the Olympus, the mountain if the Gods. Etymological it denotes:
"full of light" therefore is the Mountain of the Gods depicted as a spiritual, bright shiny place
and offers the concept of Heaven, where in Greek Mythology the Gods, Half-Gods and descendants of the Gods, with their servants dwelled.
According to other traditional writings, "lived" the Gods not on the mountain, but instead appeared in another form of existence. Thinking about this after all, Zeus was the ruler of the Heavens and the Earth, Poseidon ruled over the Seas and Hades over the Underworld.
This would not fit into the concept of interpretation, that Mount Olympus, plateau of the Earth and "Zeus territory", would be the whereabouts of the Gods. More so was the believe, that it was the abode of the Gods, a palace in which only twelve dwellings existed.
On Mount Olympus is a huge notch visible, and with a little fantasy, it looks like a very large throne. In antique Greece this was called: the Throne of Zeus.
The best known of all the Greek Gods and Goddesses, are surely the so called:
"Twelve Olympic Gods."
