Wawa Goose
The First Goose
Wawa is a Tourist/Lumber/Mining-Town
in the northern part of Ontario Canada.
The discovery of Hematite-Ore, has been
a major contributor to the growth
of Wawa to a population of 4100 residents.
After the completion of the Trans-Canada Highway,
the residents were disappointed
when it by-passed their downtown.
The first Glimpse
To Commemorate
Therefore it was decided in 1960,
to contract Al Turcott, a very ingenious man,
to erect a huge plaster and wire goose,
to invite the travelers into their town.
To their dismay, the original statue did not stand up
to the harsh Ontario weather and in 1963 a new goose,
today's likeness, was constructed out of Steel.
The inviting goose is the largest of it's kind
and is therefore, one of North-America's most
photographed landmarks.
But where are the live geese?
